Senator Knopp said it pretty well in a Senatorial Press Release a few days ago:
In a statement released this morning, Senate Democrats made a false statement that “Senate Republican Leader Tim Knopp admits walkout is about abortion and gun safety legislation,” citing an article published in Oregon Capital Chronicle on Sunday.
Leader Knopp reiterated that Wagner is knowingly and willfully violating the readability standard explicitly laid out in Senate Rules, Oregon statute, and the Oregon Constitution.
Leader Knopp told the reporter that Republicans are willing to end the protest if staff rewrites bill summaries to comply with the law, and if Democrats set aside their most extreme bills whose summaries similarly don’t comply with the law.
You can read the full Press Release below, after we offer a few suggestions about what YOU can do to support a beleaguered Senators (reprinted from PeoplesRights.org):
1) Please take a few minutes of your day to email the following Senators and send them a word of encouragement and/or thanks for standing up for the rights of the people with this Walkout. Please encourage them to not give in or compromise our rights.
GOOD SENATORS:
Sen.DavidBrockSmith@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.ArtRobinson@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.DickAnderson@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.CedricHayden@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.FredGirod@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.KimThatcher@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.BrianBoquist@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.SuzanneWeber@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.DanielBonham@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.TimKnopp@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.DennisLinthicum@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.BillHansell@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.LynnFindley@oregonlegislature.gov
2) While you’re at it, please also email these Senators who are supporting bills that violate our rights and let them know your thoughts.
BAD SENATORS
Sen.WlnsveyCampos@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.MichaelDembrow@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.LewFrederick@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.SaraGelser@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.JeffGolden@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.ChrisGorsek@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.KayseJama@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.KateLieber@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.JamesManning@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.MarkMeek@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.DebPatterson@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.FloydProzanski@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.JaneenSollman@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.ElizabethSteiner@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.KathleenTaylor@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.RobWagner@oregonlegislature.gov, Sen.AaronWoods@oregonlegislature.gov
3) Lastly, there are two specific legislators that need to hear from you.
Senator Rob Wagner: Sen.RobWagner@oregonlegislature.gov
He is failing to hold the legislature accountable to the Oregon Constitution Article IV Section 21 (Acts to be plainly worded) and ORS 171.134 which requires bills to score a 60 on the Flesch readability scale (or the equivalent…think 9th grade reading level). These bills scored between a 14-16. For perspective, anything at about 30 is considered the equivalent of reading something in a scientific journal written by someone with a PhD. The lower the score the lower the readability.
Representative Charlie Conrad: Rep.CharlieConrad@oregonlegislature.gov
He is the SOLE Republican Representative that voted in FAVOR of HB2002 which allows minors of ANY age (including as young as 10) to receive an abortion without parental knowledge. It also allows minors as young as 15 to receive “gender affirming care” without parental knowledge. It also decriminalizes concealing the dead body of a newborn child.
